The Squirrels Room provides a rich, stimulating and highly structured learning environment for children in their pre-school years, building the skills, confidence and independence needed for a successful transition to school.

Children benefit from a full Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum delivered through high-quality continuous provision and carefully planned thematic learning. Unlike many settings, our provision runs year-round, ensuring children access consistent learning and development for 50 weeks of the year.

 

Experienced Teaching Team

Our experienced Squirrels team, led by a qualified Early Years teacher, work collaboratively to plan engaging and purposeful learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. These include opportunities for real-world learning through visits, outdoor exploration, and carefully planned educational experiences.

Regular updates, planned activities, and upcoming visits are shared with parents in advance to keep families fully informed and involved in their child’s learning journey.

 

Learning & Development

Unlike many nurseries, we operate with a 1:8 staff-to-child ratio rather than the higher 1:13 ratio commonly found in other pre-school settings, allowing for greater individual attention, stronger relationships, and higher-quality learning interactions.

Within the room, children enjoy a balance of adult-led teaching and child-initiated play, with a strong focus on early literacy, numeracy, communication, and problem-solving. Learning is enriched through thematic projects, group work, and continuous access to both indoor and outdoor environments.

 

Indoor & Outdoor Learning

The Squirrels Room offers free-flow access to indoor learning areas, a covered outdoor canopy, and secure outdoor play spaces, allowing children to move freely between environments throughout the day.

Children are supported to develop independence, resilience, and school-readiness skills, while continuing to grow socially and emotionally within a nurturing and supportive environment.

 

Continuity of Care

We are proud that the majority of families choose to remain with us through this final nursery stage, benefiting from continuity of care, consistent teaching approaches, and extended funded childcare provision.
